My name is Shaira Busnawi.

I'm a senior at West Ranch High School in Awesome-town  a.k.a Santa Clarita, California. I guess you could say the people here are pretty privileged and living in their own bubble.

I was so tired of living this shielded life; it felt like it was a lie. Just in my backyard, there are multiple massage parlors that are engaging in prostitution and human trafficking. These injustices that were so close to home made me realize that the town I live in, isn't as awesome as it seems. It opened my eyes to a whole new world, a world that isn't as privileged.

This influenced me to start writing.

I want to share what I've seen, learned, and experienced in hopes to encourage others to step out of their own bubble. To me, Hiraeth is a place where I can finally express my raw thoughts and even questions without feeling restrained.

Beyond this, I've been playing competitive tennis since I was eight. Today, I am the co-captain of the West Ranch varsity tennis team. I have also done field work in politics and law, interning under Christy Smith and the district attorney of Santa Clarita. In the future, I hope to pursue a career in law so I can fight for those who can't fight for themselves.
